The Benefits of
Private Pay
Why Paying Out of Pocket Can Help Ensure The Best Care and Outcome
As a therapist, my goal is to provide my clients with the best possible outcomes, and private pay therapy is one way to support that. Even though insurance can reduce your payments per session it comes with some disadvantages that are important to understand so that you can make an informed decision about your care.
6 Benefits of Private Pay
1. Confidentiality
Confidentiality is a high priority in counseling. We always do our best to keep your information private. When you use insurance, the insurance company has access to your mental health information. This can increase the cost of life insurance and can even impact employment in certain professions if your health care is provided by your employer (pilots, military, etc).
2. Avoiding/Not Forcing Diagnosis
A diagnosis in your record can follow you the rest of your life. Similar to #1 it can impact your employment, insurance costs and much more. Insurance companies typically require a diagnosis to authorize treatment and that can mean that you get a label in your record that can follow you the rest of your life. That can be avoided by paying out of pocket where we don't have to have a diagnosis to give you the care you need.
3. Control of your Care
Insurance companies get a say in the kind of care you can receive. By paying out of pocket, we get the flexibility to adjust your treatment to meet your needs without a third party dictating things that can hinder your outcomes.
4. Unlimited Coverage
Insurance companies can dictate how many sessions you can be covered for and that can mean you don't get the care you need for as long as you need it.
5. Additional Flexibility in Scheduling
Without the third party of insurance in the scheduling, we can prioritize your care and be more likely to fit you into a time that works with your schedule.
6. Therapist choice
Your insurance may not cover me (or other therapists) who may be your best fit and who might be able to give you a higher likelihood of success. By going private (cash) pay you can choose your own therapist.
Is Private Pay Right for You?
Private pay may be a good fit if you value extra privacy, would rather not have a mental health diagnosis on your insurance record, or want to choose the length and frequency of your sessions yourself. Some clients start with insurance and move to private pay later, or the other way around. Learn more about insurance and payment options or browse our FAQ.
If you have out-of-network benefits, a superbill can be provided for possible reimbursement. Private pay is available for in-person sessions in Flower Mound and for online therapy across Texas and Florida. To talk through which option fits you best, contact Heavenly Counseling or book a free 15-minute consultation.
