Frequently Asked Questions
What is the purpose of the free 15-minute consultation?
This is a complimentary, no-pressure phone call that serves as a gentle introduction. It’s a chance for you to briefly share what you're going through, ask any initial questions you may have, and get a feel for our approach. It helps us both ensure that Heavenly Counseling is the right fit for your healing journey before you commit to a full session.
I don't live in Flower Mound. Can I still work with you?
Absolutely. While we love seeing clients in our Flower Mound, TX office, many of our clients come from the greater Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) area. We are also proud to offer secure online therapy (telehealth) to residents throughout DFW, all of Texas, and Florida. Whether you’re in Dallas, Fort Worth, or anywhere else in the state, all you need is a quiet private space and a stable internet connection to receive compassionate, expert support from the comfort of your own home.
What are your session fees and do you accept insurance?
How do I know if I'm "ready" for grief counseling?
There is no "right" or "wrong" time to seek support. If you're finding it difficult to navigate daily life, feeling overwhelmed by your emotions, or simply feel you could use a safe space to process your loss, then you are ready. Grief counseling can be helpful whether your loss was recent or many years ago. Reaching out is a sign of strength.
What exactly is grief counseling?
Grief counseling is a specialized type of therapy focused on helping you process and cope with a significant loss. It is a guided process where you and a therapist work together in a safe, confidential space to navigate the emotional, mental, and practical challenges of the grief process.
How is this different from talking to my friends or family?
While support from loved ones is vital, a grief counselor is a trained, impartial professional. You can speak without worrying about burdening them, filtering your thoughts, or managing their reactions. We provide a non-judgmental perspective and specialized tools to help you understand and navigate your unique grief journey.
What is the difference between grief, bereavement, and mourning?
Grief is the internal experience—your thoughts and feelings in response to loss.
Bereavement is the state of having experienced a loss.
Mourning is the external expression of grief—the rituals, tears, and actions you take to honor your loss.
Counseling helps you with all three challenges.
I lost my spouse a long time ago. Is it too late to start?
It is never too late. Grief has no expiration date. "Delayed grief" can surface months or even years after a loss. Counseling can be incredibly effective at any stage, whether the loss was recent or in the distant past.
My loss wasn't a death (e.g., divorce, loss of a career, health diagnosis). Can you still help?
Yes. While our practice specializes in bereavement, the tools used in grief counseling are highly effective for processing any major life transition that involves loss. These experiences are a form of grief and deserve support.
What is the therapist’s role? Will you just listen?
Listening is a huge part of our role, but it's more than that. We are active partners. We will ask thoughtful questions, offer insights, provide education about the grieving process, and teach you practical coping strategies. We are here to guide, validate, and support you.
What if I cry for the entire session?
That is perfectly okay. Tears are a natural and healthy expression of grief. Our sessions provide a safe space for all emotions, and you will not be judged for them.
What if I don't cry? Is something wrong with me?
No. People express grief in countless ways, and not all of them involve tears. Some people experience numbness, anger, or process things more intellectually. There is nothing wrong with you if you don't cry.
Will counseling make the pain go away completely?
Grief counseling can significantly lessen the intensity and overwhelming nature of the pain, making it more manageable. The sadness of missing someone you love may always be a part of you, but it doesn't have to dominate your life. Counseling helps you find peace alongside the pain.
Is everything I share completely confidential?
Yes. Confidentiality is the cornerstone of therapy. Everything you say is protected by strict ethical and legal standards. The only exceptions are rare, specific situations where there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, which we are legally required to report.
How will I know if therapy is working?
You may notice subtle shifts over time. You might start to have more "good" days than "bad" days. You might find yourself re-engaging with hobbies or people, feeling less overwhelmed by triggers, or beginning to think about the future with a sense of hope. We will provide check-ins to monitor your progress on a regular basis.
Why is a credit card required on file?
To save time and keep our sessions focused entirely on your support, we require a credit card to be kept on file. Payments are processed automatically and confidentially after each appointment through our secure, HIPAA-compliant system.
